In February 1937 it was announced that Fred Meyer would build a modern bakery on a 100' X 200' lot on SE Madison between SE 11th & 12th, and remodel the building shown here on the corner of SE 11th & Hawthorne, which was the former home of Liberty Laundry. One year later in 1938 the bakery was opened, and the public was invited to visit the new bakery.
