It’s been a fun run. Millions of views and lots of great supporters but the time has arrived to halt the presses. The engine that I use ( TYPE PAD) has become worse than ever. I’m going to leave the site up until they go broke and it all goes away. I looked at transferring all the thousands of photos to a new carrier but it’s a fortune to do and I would still lose plenty of content. I want to thank you for stopping by and giving The Stump a look. You can find the latest photos on Facebook under PORTLAND MEMORIES. Thank you again.
Dave
Did not expect this! Great job

Dave... Thanks very much for your efforts to deal with these idiots. I've appreciate all your posts, your brilliant eclectic variety, and fun loving sense of community.
I've really enjoyed it from miles away in the heartland.
Your friend in the void,
Scottie Fischer

Sad to hear this, I have enjoyed your blog for years. It has been a daily visit and always looked forward to your posts and views.
Wishing you "Fair Winds and Following Seas"

Several years ago, World Famous Tom Murphy (now in LA) remarked to me that Stumptown Blogger was the first website he visited when he turned on his computer each morning.
Same here (in Olympia), for many years. No doubt the absence of your good-natured humor and wide-ranging assortment of pictures and quirky ads will make mornings a little less enjoyable.
Wherever your travels take you, Dave, good luck, good health, and as our boyhood hero would say, Happy Trails.

Even though I moved away from Portland in 2016, I’ve still checked this blog almost every morning since then.
Several of my favorite daily websites and blogs have gone away this year.

Sorry to hear this, Dave. I don't do Facebook. Is Portland Memories your FB page? Or is it just a place you go to post pictures? Regardless, it doesn't sound like the kind of spot that will have the varied content posted here.

I'm not a joiner, so no Facebook here either. I will surely miss you, Dave, another of my "permanent" bookmarks gone.

Wow, wasn’t expecting this. I hope you feel that it wasn’t all in vein, because I for one was a near-daily visitor for years. I will miss this site and will join you on Facebook for sure!

As a long time & daily visitor I shall miss your provocative posts. Not a farcebook person, so I bid you goodnight.

Hey Dave...
I used the link to your FB page and it went right through. I have no clue what John's problem is.
Anyway, have you ever considered moving Stumptown to Facebook? I've been with you on Stumptown since, I think, late 2009. You've never been as Portland-centric as the Portland Memories page. Just a thought.
I did find that the Facebook page I created years ago is still active. Damn! That picture is horrible. I'm not going to become an active Facebooker, but at least I should be able to look at your page.

Yes, John. The link you posted goes to the Portland Memories Facebook page. Highlight the link. left click, then click on "Go to https://www.facebook..." This will take you to Facebook and the Portland Memories page. This is for a Windows machine.
If you have an Apple, you'll have to use keyboard shortcuts. Highlight, Command-C to copy, put your cursor in the address bar of your browser and Command-V to paste, then hit Enter.

Portland, and the American scene as it used to be. Can't believe you're going away. Thanks.
