Opened in 1946 - closed in 1982 - demolished in 1999
Mapes was home to the stars and staff of the famous film THE MISFITS
Clark Gable had a heart attack two days after the wrap. He died ten days later. He was 59
Marilyn Monroe caused director John Huston agony with her problems remembering lines, showing up late & arguing with writer & husband Arthur Miller.
During location shooting of Bonanza, the cast stayed at The Mapes. They called it their second home.
On the 12th floor was The Sky Room where Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Nat King Cole and other top names performed. It had the best view of Reno at night.
The hotel was replaced by an ice rink used during seasonal times.

Gable was very frustrated by Marilyn’s work ethic. Clark Gable was a true professional actor and caused hell with director John Huston during the filming.
